Matter vs energy

I think people animals etc are not from matter. I think a living cell is not matter. Even a leather jacket is not matter.

But hard objects are matter.

Im so glad i could post here.

If you think living cells and jackets are not made of matter, what are they made of? And have you brought this up with your pdoc or therapist?

Im starting to doubt myself. I think im not made of matter.

I’ve never felt that before, doubting my own existence. It sounds very scary. But you are real. You are made of atoms which form molecules, which form cells, which form tissues and then organs. You are a part of this world. And we are glad for that.

But I do really think you need to talk about this to someone. It sounds like you may be having trouble.

Matter and energy are different forms of the same thing. Matter doesn’t necessarily have to be in the form of atoms - it could be plasma or particles. Matter and energy: E^2=p^2c^2 + m^2c^4.

Matter is something that has mass and takes up space, so anything that has mass, no matter how small it is, is matter. If it is massless, then it would probably be considered a form of energy. (Though when you get really far down into quantum mechanics and whatnot, the whole area become intensely convoluted). Matter being converted into energy happens all the time. If you look at the decay of a radioactive element and add up the mass of the decay products and compare it to the mass of the parent atom, you’ll see that there is a very tiny difference.

That small difference in mass, known as the mass defect, is converted into energy. For one atom it doesn’t seem like much, but if you have a large mass of those atoms the energy builds up VERY quickly and a LOT of energy is given off. The amount of energy is calculated by Einstein’s famous theory of relativity equation.

You know einstein’s famous equation E=mc^2? It shows the relation between energy and matter. Energy is matter times the speed of light squared.

So I guess energy is just really, really fast matter.

I like how you made this very thoughtful and detailed analysis of the equation and then I’m over here like “energy is matter going really fast” LOL

@InnerCircle @Anna I think the important part is it seems @anon62371846 is starting to doubt her existance. Not really a discussion on the nature of matter and energy.

@anon62371846 The important part is that you are real and it sounds like you need help working through this. If you speak to someone they could help you feel more stable.

ok can i ask the formula for velocity /particle wave equaling density? Speed of light does change in space and it bends.

thought perhaps not
