"Mastery of life is the opposite of control."

-Eckhart Tolle

Do you think this is true? What’s your experience?

I agree with it. It reminds me of a saying about mastery of self is real power, not control. Or something like that. I have forgotten the exact words

It’s all about control

I like Alan Watts, he was quite a drunkard but he was very enlightened.

I LOVE THIS TOPIC. :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

I believe that we only contol ourselves, and environment cannot be controlled at all… well, there are some exceptions. Like dictatorships. Somehow the one person controlls the whole country. Exception.
I personally tried to change many people in my life, and it never worked out.
But overall we need to let go so many things and forgot about controlling other decisions or their view to life. And then we’ll be way happier.

We even cannot make others to like us. It’s up to them…
indeed great topic.
Overall, I remember I was sad while thinking that the only person I can control (which is me) cannot be controlled by me without meds. Like, we cannot even control our ilnesses fully. We need external help.
So illness makes it harder to control lives and ourselves… but still.
I try to not lose hope.

Mastery of Life

If you love what you do for a living, you’ll never work a day in your life.

Thank you! I think we need to have more philosophical topics like this.

No work or love will flourish out of guilt, fear, or hollowness of heart, just as no valid plans for the future can be made by those who have no capacity for living now. Alan watts

Life is a nuthouse without walls. We’re all playing musical chairs in a workplace industrial complex. Trading places with the next man. When the music stops peoples lives are ruined. Money, sex, and power is what we’re programmed to love. Television keeps us all docile and distracted while the workaholics are busy picking our pockets. All human love is conditional. Everyone has a breaking point. The minute you stop being happy you wonder why you’re so empty. You’ve never had peace before so you can’t recognize it. You’re too busy living a hedonistic lifestyle sucking down pleasure day in and day out. Society thinks for you to justify its ends. We’re unable to think for ourselves. The only agenda that matters is the one we’re programmed to believe since birth. You don’t wanna play the game then too bad you lose. Learn to love your own company. Self hatred and feeling sorry for yourself will be your own prison. As you peek through the jail bars you see men of high pedigrees and stature living your ideal life. As you get older you become less risk oriented. Everyday your choices get more narrow making decisions more easier to address with less options. The news paralyzes us with fear until we become desensitized. Good and bad lives in every man. Frustrate a man or disrespect him and he bursts out in anger. Your friends fantasize about sleeping with your girlfriend. How much of a friend are they. They’re animals. The same people that create the problems in the world create the answers. Books and men will sell you dreams on how to get rich, how to be an alpha, how to be successful, neglecting to leave out that they came from money and you were born poor. Life is not fair. You’re broke from buying self help books and pleasures for your five senses. If only you took the other path. Maybe just maybe. One day you wake up and you’re an old man. 40 years in the rat race and all you did was sustain yourself living hand to mouth with nothing to show for it. The only thing that got you through it all was love in varying degrees from varying people. Love thy neighbor. And after it all your senses still crave more. The old is no different than the young.

You were never in control in the first place. The control is simply an illusion your mind makes up while under the false pretense that it is in some way separate from the whole. You are basically a wave that doesn’t know it’s water.
