@Twialine had a thread that was closed, that I wanted to expound upon. She was saying that she lost 4 pounds in one week by eating either cottage cheese or greek yogurt for breakfast and dinner and then meat and vegetables for lunch. She mentioned that she had cut out most sugar and that as a result she no longer craves sugar.
I know from personal past experience that when I don’t eat sugar, I don’t crave sugar so, I know her diet is doable. I want to try it out.

Same here. I regard processed, refined sugar as a trigger food and desperately try to avoid it.

I definitely know that processed, refined sugar is a trigger food for me. Trouble is, rather than avoid it, I’m attracted to it like a magnet.

This book has been extremely helpful for me. I can go into the dollar store now and cruise past all the racks of chocolate bars and chips with minimal temptation. About the only thing that still calls my name are Twizzlers. Garbage food, but I love them. I’m able to walk past them most of the time now. The book also helped me stop using bad food as a reward for good behaviour. I hit a major goal this week. Here’s my treat to myself:
1.5mm “shorty” neoprene wetsuit for paddling. I have stopped with self-sabotaging myself with “cheat” meals and now choose healthier treats that further my health goals.
Anyhow, I do recommend that book.

The thing with keto/lo carb is it gets you off processed foods and yeah letting go of sugar is a good thing. Found it hard early but you can find alternatives to most things…
Like I drink a lot of coffee but black coffee is pretty brutal but you add unsweetened almond milk and it’s suddenly not so bad.
The attraction of keto/lo carb is in the gains you get and there’s really something to it for sz. Been doing it for a long time now and it’s not only sustainable I think after 6 months you can cheat a little and still gain…sugar and processed foods aren’t good and add some fermented stuff to your diet too…lots of interesting things about that moving forward too.

Thanks a lot @shutterbug!
When you say ‘gain’, what do you mean? Gain weight?

Gains are mental. Losing weight is the bonus and it’s usually early but gains with negative and positive symptoms are there. Like early I got down to lowest clinical doses of my psych meds. Yeah i do better than most but it was a gain.
After 6 months of doing it I started to get gains in mental function. More motivation. More engagement. Less social anxiety. I say it way too much but I’m doing things after half a year I haven’t done in 20 years of clinical treatment as in engaging with the community without bugging out.
It’s continued since then and doing really good things but cheating all the time these days so it’s still huge mental gains for me and a reason I stay lo carb. I’m not so religious with it but honestly it’s been a huge game changer for me and I wish I knew about it 20 years ago when diagnosed it’s been that profound!
Hope this answers your question appropriately!

@rogueone You are so lucky that you can cheat on keto. If I even try one cheat day I gain weight and my husband is following behind me asking if I forgot to take my medication that day.

That really sucks @Vinegar. I would probably be the same way.

Every time you said the word: gain, I thought you were talking about gaining weight. You might want to substitute the word: benefit. I know, I’m probably nitpicking. I’m sorry. @rogueone But, thankyou for your explanation and you did answer my question.
