Lost my materialistic drive?

I don’t find as much value in objects as I used to. I remember when I was a teen and I would get a kick out of looking at my collection of blu rays and Nintendo DS games I had on a shelf in my room. Take them out, play the blu rays and look at the covers.

I had a real passion for collecting things. I don’t have that as much today.

I wonder why that happened.

What about you? Have you felt any change there? (if you are/were a collector of things)

That said, I don’t have a really big collection of anything right now. So maybe the feeling would come back if I had.

I used to collect nude photos of beautiful women. Tens of gigabytes. That was almost 20 years ago. When I stopped, I deleted all of it. Felt like breaking free of an obsession.

I’m now the opposite of a hoarder. I want to live minimalistically, so I rarely buy anything besides food, body care products and clothes. My family has amassed quite a few possessions, I would get rid of all the clutter in an instant.

They say, invest in experiences, not in material stuff. Maybe they have a point.

It is a good sign, as I have read that people who collect things are compensating for empty hearts. People try to fill a void in themselves with objects and items and find it can never be filled no matter how much they get.

Take it as progress, imho.

My collections are digital now, so they never get lost and I don’t need storage for them. I’ve got thousands of dollars worth of stuff on my Xbox account acquired over a decade.

I still get excited for new games. Street Fighter 6 is very fun, and Starfield is coming soon!

I also love horror movies. I am looking forward to Saw X. Tobin Bell is amazing.
