Long term weight management (abilify)

Hi,

I’ve been 15 years on the same medication.
It causes increased appetite and weight gain
It’s about my 5th antipsychotic but after 15 years of severe on and off illness I found the right one
I’ve been told that they would like to get me down to a maintenance dose. 50mg is maintainable and I take 75

3 years ago they added low dose abilify

If I swapped over to abilify altogether (gradually with supervision) is that a weight neutral drug for you!?

It’s weight neutral for me. Not for everyone though.

Edit: I take Metformin which decreases appetite so that could be why.

When I was on Abilify I didn’t really gain weight. Well I gained a bit but it felt like my natural weight. I ate and ate and still didn’t get too fat. But I did walk a lot and was very active. The only down side for certain people is sexual dysfunction and boredom. Also Abilify can cause addictive personality in certain people. That’s why I quit it.

But no, I wouldn’t say I was over weight.

I don’t really notice an increased appetitive on abilify.

It’s hard to say cuz I put in weight in the beginning of the pandemic. Then I took some weight off.

But for the last 6 months my weight has never been as stable as it is now. Within the past 10 years since starting meds anyway.

In terms of weight I haven’t gained but I do fluctuate.

As for other symptoms, akathisia can happen and anxiety too, or just a simple restlessness

If you control the addictive side, it’s a pretty good drug compared to (for me) respiridone and olanzipine.
