I saw him relativly stable than me
He may have milder voices who know
He is more functional than me
I take meds regularly i see that better than no meds at all
When i dont take them i live in misery 
I do shameful acts
I think your friend might not hear voice. If he hear voice, it usually get more intense overtime.

When i was at crisis he said to me he has voices too
Now i see him pretty normal working hard get a lot of paper money

I know one of my friend’s mom who started to hear voice at her early 20’s. She was on antipsychotic for little while but didn’t work well and made her more sick. She is unmediated for 40 years now. She is kind of lose in reality but she is able to live by herself and have a simple job. Her daughter said sometimes she is normal sometimes is not.
One program on youtube was hosting medical rep
She said most doctors relay on what medical companies say to them about their products
And adviced all patients to search for treatment themselves
My pdoc told me if I make it to my 60s I may not need them. Horse’s mouth right there.

My doctor always manupilate dose and stopping meds at sometime thats when i feel unwell and tell him so he gives me again meds this lasted for years now
