I had a volunteer job working in a soup kitchen and was busy cleaning for many hours straight. When I finished and stepped outside the town was covered in fog and the finest of rain was falling so that the drops could touch my eyeballs and I’d see a spot. I knew I’d left the world. I was in the world but no longer of it. That was in 1996 when I ran out of time.

How old were you then?
I was 26 years old. I grew up saying I would die at that age.
So, when were you diagnosed?
I was diagnosed in 1987.
So, a troubled teen. That’s when my health started to slide, too.
