Lithium 600mg

Just got put on Lithium 600mg for mood swings and thoughts of self-harm and suicide. Anyone else had any luck with this med?

I found lithium fairly effective at preventing me from feeling suicidal. I’ve only been on the lowest dosage though.

I personally preferred lamictal as mood stabilizer since it had less of a “numbing” effect on me.

I refuse to touch the anti-psychotics that are sometimes prescribed as mood stabilizers due to the numerous negative side effects that always come with AP’s.

Sometimes I’ll go off my mood stabilizers for a while and eventually I start feeling suicidal and having random crying fits without them. Both lithium and lamictal were very effective at preventing the suicidal feeling from occurring but the lamical causes less of a “flat effect” for me.

It has a record for being very effective.

Be sure to report side effects- because it is so effective, it is more likely to have some side effects, as a general rule of thumb- but if you don’t have side effects, count yourself as fortunate!
