Life goals

I’m sort of reevaluating my life goals. I had wanted to start riding horses again, I got very close to going for a riding lesson and I backed out last minute. I just don’t have the desire anymore, it’s sad because horses used to be my life. I still love horses, I just don’t have that longing anymore. Especially with how involved I’m getting into my running. So now my new goals deal around fitness and health.

I also have financial goals, next September when my lease is up I want to move from my studio apartment, into a one bedroom. Which means my rent would probably go from $1200 to $1400-1500 or so. I want to be financially stable in order to afford this. I also want to get a car again. I’ve been without a car for 2 1/2 years now and I would really like to get that freedom back. I want to be able to drive to the mountains and go hiking.

I give my apartment goal one year to complete. The goal of having a car I am giving myself 2 years to complete that goal.

Then long term goal of getting back into triathlons like I did as a kid and watched my dad do. I know all the steps to take to get there and I am off to a good start.

More of a short term goal is to start losing weight again as I heal my relationship with food.

My sister and her daughters are into horseback riding. It helps them bond and they all enjoy it. When one of my nieces lost a horse it was to hard on her and she kind of stopped, but is gaining a little interest again. I want to be financially secure and race bicycles and motorcycles. I want to race remote control cars and play drums in a band. I am open to a relationship or marriage. I am at a crucial point in recovery where I feel like I could give up and go back to just wanting to be left alone for months at a time. I have too much momentum at the moment though. I am pushing harder instead of burning out.

You are doing really well to have goals like that. Well done

I don’t really have any long term life goals, which is probably due to the fact that right now I’m living day to day. I would like to become president of the executive board of my clubhouse the week after Thanksgiving (I’m currently VP), and I’d like to lose another 10 pounds, but that’s about it goal-wise. Mostly, right now, I’m just focusing on getting thru each day. I admire those of you who can plan ahead for a couple of years, it takes incredible grit!

Sounds like you’re doing well and have pretty practical and reachable goals.

I have one goal, to grow out my beard LOL. Shouldn’t be too difficult to reach I imagine.

Values vs Goals - By Dr. Russ Harris

Kind of important to have both values and goals.

I guess it depends on if you want to be successful or not.

idk, if success means to you achieving goals, but i dont want to argue, all things are possible

Sure, but not all things are probable (look up the odds of winning the lottery).

My current goal is to spend more time outside and less time in front of a screen. I am currently rearranging my life around being more active and maintaining the health I have while improving it where I’m able.

I also hit an employment goal where I am now making more money and getting more vacation with a shorter working day because I am in the middle of changing jobs.

I think it is good to have goals, but that the goals should align with your values. Also, values change as a person ages.

I think it is helpful to have some idea about the future in order to reduce anxiety.

This reminds me of a concept I had heard from Jordan Peterson on expanding entropy (moving away from predictable, desired outcomes) or contracting entropy (moving closer, certain, almost within reach), in terms of anxiety.

So if you have future goals but cannot/will not move towards them, then it could increase the entropy/anxiety instead of lowering it. Something to keep in mind, for your goal choices.

If it keeps you focused AND moving towards the goal, then having goals should decrease the entropy/anxiety.

My goal list.
I have noted that I am not able to carry out all of these consistently due to the changes in my cognition as it fluctuates. So it might be better to discard some of them to avoid increasing my anxiety.

  • Build up my body, correct my posture and moving habits (be able to run long distances)
  • Read and obtain knowledge, add it to my notes for future reference
  • Learn German language, study German History and Culture (esp. Food/diet)
  • Prepping and future allocations to life security
  • Learning practical skills for daily use or utility (Not just SHTF)
  • Save up on money from a job, buy silver for long term savings
  • Play splatoon 3 into competitive, high x rank, and sendouQ

I don’t have long term goals . I wish I had goals and dreams

@Hanna_Foxx
If you don’t mind me asking…
What is your Vo2 max if you know it?
And what would you recommend for a triathlon, in terms of fitness level and preparation?

I’d imagine your body would have to be capable of burning lots of calories in a short time span, but beyond that I don’t know much about it.

A lot of people can imagine the future, and a few can build it.

I think it is sad where we are as humanity, and hopefully we will go back to being builders in future eras of humanity’s development. We could all do it if we are healthy and conscious as human beings.

I know my Vo2 max is really low when measured by my apple watch because I have POTS which raises my heartrate higher than a normal person. It depends on the length of the triathlon. My plan is to start with a “sprint” distance triathlon which is 750m swim, 20k bike and 5k run. I think if you can exercise without stopping for about 2 hours you should be able to complete that distance. Now an Ironman for example is WAY harder. It’s a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and full marathon(26.2 mile) run. My dad completed 3 ironmans when I was a kid. That is my end goal for maybe like 10 years from now.
