Licorice Root for Schizophrenia?

Hi everyone,

I just was looking at herbal treatments for schizophrenia and I found that Licorice Root has a strong effect on schizophrenia symptoms, has anyone here tried this? If so what did it do?

Its used to decrease libido and testosterone.

Licorice that contains glycyrrhizin is possibly unsafe when consumed in large amounts or for a long time. Eating licorice 5 grams or more daily for several weeks can cause severe side effects including heart attack. People who have heart disease, kidney disease, or high blood pressure are more sensitive to it. Ingesting large amounts of licorice from candy, lozenges, or tea might also cause serious side effects.

I have taken it, but not for mental issues. It’s good for the digestive system.

Yikes! I won’t be taking it then!

Don’t worry. In Scandinavia we eat tons of licorice, apart if you suffer from high blood pressure, it’s harmless, but of course it cant help schizophrenia.

But it can increase energy for a moment.

Not that I’ve noticed. I make my own root beer from scratch so I go through a lot of licorice root. I also like to chew on them.
