Lewis Carroll had a fascination with drawing and photographing nude children, mostly little girls in compromising poses. His book Alice in wonderland was inspired by a real Alice. Some say he may have loved this little girl. He would also take young girls down the river Thames and tell them fantastical stories. I mean this is not ok. People look past this because he wrote a great book. Goes to show, just because you wrote a great book, doesnāt make you a great person. Thereās a photo of this Alice with her hand on her hip and her nipple showing.
Iām obsessed with Alice in wonderland! I collect memorabilia!
Weāre all mad here!!!
I have the book and movies. Itās so strange what people believed back then.
No stranger then what some people believe now! You have read this forum, right? Lol!
Youāre right. This is such a strange world we live in.
It was pretty common to take nude photos of your children back then. They werenāt considered sexy, but innocent. They also took pictures with dead family members. Called it mori momento.
Oh my lord
Aliceās adventure in wonderland is 1 of my favoritesā¦
I search goolge and there a lot of website talking about thatā¦
omg is it real, just canāt believe it
Uh this Lewis man was not family. One of the girlās was a prepubescent showing her breasts bloomed and all. Like a full on frontal. Another photo I saw was of this Lewis kissing the young Alice, she was a 4 year old.
I know he wasnāt. He was a family friend. Iām just saying the nude kid photos was a thing back then.
Definitely eye opening in our age. Took me by surprise. He did have a falling out with the Lyddle family, Aliceās family. Wonder if his behavior had anything to do with it. I know you said it was normal back then, because the age of consent was 11, but kissing 4 year olds is brow raising.
A lot of things Victorians did seem strange. Men used to share beds quite often and had closer relationships than now. To the point people argue over whether certain figures were gay or not. Abe Lincoln for instance.
Today everything is sexualized. Nothing is innocent. Of course there were many that probably took advantage of that innocence. Like you said 11 was able to consent. Marriage happened young.
Interestingā¦
Yeah. I remember that in my Victorian lit. class, Victorians used to view children as āinnocent figuresā. This is in fact in a lot of books. Photographing/drawing children nude was symbolizing an innocence that could not be captured when they are older, and it was not sexual.
The most kind hearted people are the most sickest, imo.
A lot of great writers were awful people. F. Scott Fitzgerald and Fyodor Dostoyevsky were horrible people. Edgar Allen Poe wrote āAnnabelle Leeā about his thirteen year old cousin. A lot of great writers also lead miserable lives. A lot of them died young from alcoholism. Poe died on the street looking for opium.
Yeah. Just because they were famous doesnāt mean they werenāt creepy people. A good reason you shouldnāt celebrate celebrity. I swear for a period of the nineties there were people getting famous for doing sex tapes. Like wtf? Itās not something to be known or get famous from!
Even if your sz you know what is right from wrong. Sometimes circumstance may force you to act outā¦but still you know!
Death also happened quite young. You could have 14 children and expect 6 of them to become adults if you were lucky (this was back when diabetes and many other diseases were fatal).
Death happened really young, because back then, hygiene was not really practiced that much. Many children were susceptible to tuberculosis, cholera, etc. because they werenāt really vaccinated or practiced hygiene. May their souls rest in peace.
Ahā¦, Iām asian so Iām not sure about Victorians culture
I have hear that many girl marry at young age back then tooā¦
and age gap might not be problem in that time
because I was raised at this modern time so I canāt help but feel weird
Itās might not wrong back then
