Yeah seems like we are target practice for the police - thank God for cell phones and cameras.
I really do not understand why they don’t use tasers - they should invent really effective accurate tasers or tranquilizing guns - real bullets kill - but they know this already
@Wave they do make fantastic tasers that will put all but the most drugged up people on the ground. Police are trained wrong in this country. They are rarely put under real stress while training which makes it hard for them to act logically in the heat of the moment. Not many even carry the tasers, let alone use them. Not to mention, when your suspect is dead they can’t sue. A big problem is that people are tasted and develop nerve damage, as this is sometimes a permanent effect, they can get a lot of money.
This is a tragedy but this kid’s mental illness killed him, not the police. It’s the same as if he had walked onto a busy highway and got hit or thought he could fly and jumped off a roof.
The police should be compassionate and understanding but also need to be safe. If they confront someone apparently carrying a gun who refuses their orders and advances towards them aggressively raising the weapon, they need to protect themselves. Though there were 15 officers at the scene, only 5 or 6 fired.
The parents and the mental health system are more to blame in this case than the police.
