We don’t have an AA group in the town I live in. Or I should say, we didn’t until last night. I kind of got cornered into helping start a group as I’m apparently the town’s “old timer”. In AA parlance it means I’m the AA member who has piled up the largest number of years of sobriety, which I guess is impressive. The bottom line is that I don’t have that much over the newcomers as we’re all trying to keep the plug in the jug for the same 24 hours and I can slip as easily as anyone else.
Still, it felt good to have a home group again. It’s been a while. I’ve been subsisting off online meetings and the odd visit to other groups, while avoiding the commitment of joining. I’ve just been so busy with volunteer work I’ve felt like my head would explode if I took this on, too.
Anyhow, I did take it on last night and it felt good, except for the part where I got made Treasurer. Phooey.
