Just had half a root canal done

Anyone know what to expect post-op?

My dentist never mentioned anything but some accounts online describe post op pain and swelling

Anyone had a root canal done before?

I know @Charles_Foster used to be a dentist’s assistant. She might have some insights.

That’s only for extractions.

And @Jimbob,

It really shouldn’t be painful as much as sore and aggravating.

Tylenol could be enough.

If not, I’d call them and let them know,

Maybe they can get you something stronger for a few days.

Mild pain a few hours after the numbing shot. Totally manageable. Dunno what half a root canal means though. Either they removed the nerve or they didn’t. Don’t think half measure is possible here.

They removed the nerve and filled the tooth. But they didn’t put the crown on

Oh, ok. You should be fine. In rare cases the bone tissue around the tooth root might be infected, but they should catch that on the x-ray and maybe prescribe an antibiotic. Good luck.

Yes I recently had a root canal. I had no complications. I was lucky because my Mom’s special needs trust for me paid for it. I know some guys with no teeth.

I’ve had about seven. The ones I got in the 1990’s hurt and were uncomfortable and took a long time. Now, I’ve had 5 in the past three years and they were pretty painless, just a little uncomfortable and didn’t take forever. And my insurance paid for half the cost, incidentally.
