I've hit a wall

Quite literally, actually. The voices said they’d stop if I hit my head hard enough, so banged my head into a concrete wall until they stopped. I feel a lot better now, save for the headache. This probably doesn’t count as a “positive coping skill,” but I’m just relieved to have found something that works, even for a little while.

Believe me (after what happened to me from 1994-2003), I understand. But I hope you’ll defer from further head-banging. One has only to work in a hospital to see how often people who do this wind up in the ER, then acute psych unit, then a long-term psych unit they’re never going to leave (if not worse).

Piles of research show that sz pts tend to get “better” when they…

  1. Get a copy of this book and read it and have their families read it, as well.

  2. Get properly diagnosed by a board-certified psychopharmacologist who specializes in the psychotic disorders. One can find them at…

  3. Work with that “psychiatrist” (or “p-doc”) to develop a medication formula that stabilizes their symptoms sufficiently so that they can tackle the psychotherapy that will disentangle their thinking.

  4. The best of the therapies for that currently include…
    DBT –
    MBSR –

  5. the even newer somatic psychotherapies like…

    Learned Optimism –

  7. If you/she/he needs a professional intervention, tell me where you live, and I will get back to you with leads to those services.

I’m not sure this is healthy, because it might become a habit and you might do yourself serious damage. Work with the pdoc to get on the right med’s. Don’t harm yourself.

That practice will really harm you. Much more than voices. Please tell your doctor you’ve started doing this.

when they tell you to walk off a cliff will you do that too ? :scream:
or maybe when they tell you …you are jesus…you will walk out of a second story window ?
there are better ways…of controlling your ’ own ’ mind.
know someone cares
take care :alien:

Thanks for the kind words. I see my therapist tomorrow, and I’ll talk to her about it
