I've been taking "painless" showers lately

And it’s easier for me. A “painless” shower is quick, apply soap till it’s slippery without bothering to lather. Then rinse and dry. I was done in less than 10 minutes, possibly 5. If I make no fuss, it’s less a problem.

Wth does lathering do, I have no idea. Wet soap makes the dirt wash off your body, drying gets the rest.

I have always bathed without lather. Soap dissolves sweat and fat, water then removes the dirt.

American commercial lore has an ongoing, inescapable message that bubbles carry away dirt and germs. They do it for toothpaste, cleaning products, soap, probably other things. It’s insidious, just like USAmerica.
