first thing im going to do is get a 2 year degree. then i will look for full time work locally, probably at the casino. and do that for as long as possible, if it doesn’t work out, i can always reapply for ssdi. so hoping in 4 or 5 years i will be working full time.
im doing well. sometimes some night time voices before bed, but it doesn’t bother me. i just go to sleep that night, and wake up normal the next morning. i won’t work a physical job though, and don’t want more than 40 hours a week. with a couple days off.
I think your approach is sensible.
Study or whatever to get a job you enjoy.
Don’t become one of these people who gets trapped in employment just for the money. You have to like what your doing to be successful
Good luck! What degrees are you considering?
biology. is what im thinking, but maybe accounting or H.R. would make more sense if im going to work at the casino. i dont know, i’ll probably just study biology for the sake of getting a degree and then get a job.
Biology is cool. I liked it in college.
Don’t do accounting. You’d never get hired with such an employment gap. Trust me, I used to work in the field.
The other two would be good choices imo
I worked near full-time for 4.5 years. I was in promotions at sporting events. It was an independent contractor gig and straight commission, I averaged $3500 income per month. I probably averaged 30-35 hours per week, equates to about $30/ hr. Pay was good, co-workers weren’t the nicest, but I was able to eke out a good living for almost five years. I’m now back on SSDI and work part-time.
Sounds like if you do biology, it would strictly be for furthering your knowledge in the field and not job related. Right now, I think jobs are trending towards specializations. I think it’s a great idea to acquire a new skill. Personally, I might get into graphic design, practice and perfect skills like software on the creative cloud (Adobe photoshop, to name one). When i perform job searches, graphic design always is in demand and the pay is reasonable. Plus it can be done remotely and without supervision.
Good luck, it is hard work for us usually. Hope for the best.
