My mind couldn’t let me know. It had been injured and forced me into thoughtlessness. I flunked kindergarten. Mother was the only one who could get through to me at all. But her ways were damaging as were my father’s. I can’t believe in myself and that has a very real reason. It’s hard not to let it get me down.

Unsupportive parents can have a big and lasting effect on people with schizophrenia, that’s for sure.
