Is eating vegetarian food more beneficial than eating non-vegetarian in our case ?
i eat vegan food.
it helps me feel a lot better and is getting my weight down
following a macrobiotic diet and going to college to learn it
it’s really a feel good way of eating but a little time consuming but i have all the time in the world
antipsychotic meds is the only thing that’s gonna cure sz
Yes yes yes yes yes …food is very important. Vegetarian is good yes. Wouldn’t say eating meat is evil etc but it can help clear your mind more than if you’re eating too much meat. But yes overall health is a huge factor (not the only but one of many) that determine mental health.
A person is not going to wake up the next day with no SZ if they become a vegetarian, but it’s a huge step in the right direction to lessening the severity of symptoms in many cases.
Then do you see our psychiatrists suggesting us that we eat good healthy food for a better mental health ?
My psychiatrist says you can eat whatever you want to as long as the meds work… but i feel so depressed when I eat chicken, lamb , pork etc…
When I eat fresh fruits i feel some positive changes …
Many doctors, in fact I would say most, would recommend a healthy diet. No doctor with good sense would say that diet is irrelevant. Maybe he was just saying that diet alone and rejecting meds is not going to fix it. Which is true. We still need meds…
Put it like this…
Diet will solve for example 10% of the problem
Meds 40%
Therapy 20%
Exercise 10% etc…
This is just an example but you get my point. 10% improvement is a lot.
You put all these together you can make significant improvements in your outcome.
no, western diet doesn’t seem to be healthy… We’re talking about western medicine…
So maybe there’s a correlation… I’ve done all sorts of yoga and veganism and acupuncture and shiatsu and came off my meds and I was then in hospital for nine months…though Antipsychotics are the only thing that will cure Most schizophrenics on gods earth
That’s exactly it. Recovery is like a puzzle, got to find all the pieces and put them together yourself.
well said but i’d put a higher emphasis on diet and exercise for mood and health
psychosis specific mental health i’d be stronger for the meds
The confuzling part is everyone’s puzzle can be different so…it’s a fight for health for sure… Thanks for the @
I find when I’m in recovery I eat healthier than when I’m in episode. I’m vegetarian. Lately I’m trying to cut out processed foods and eat very natural food. It won’t cure my sza though but it will help. Gotta keep with my meds though!
Mine has 10% green tea and 10% petting the kitty.
Eating healthy definitly helps. I don’t see anything wrong with eating meat as long as it’s in moderation. Have some veggies to the meat and it’s pretty healthy.
I tried going vegetarian for one and a half years, but I actually felt worse. When I started eating meat again I got better. Some nutrients we need are almost only found in meat. You can get them as supplements, but the fact that some of the nutrients we are dependent on can almost only be found in meat gives the notion that we are dependent on it from natures side as it is was a big part of our ancestors diet.
This may sound bad but our stomach enzymes are somewhat different and so is our saliva due to medicines and the illness there are several ways of testing yourself to find out what good enzymes are best for you and how to diet properly as the medicines tend to decrease enzymes and put on weight is best that we know these things in order to battle physical defects from the illness called schizophrenia I hope this answers your question
I can’t be picky because I get my food from the food bank/pantry.
But there are people who have been vegetarians their whole life and they have been very healthy and fit … meat is not the only source of protein.
Our ancestors survived on meat because that’s what they got easily without farming … but that should never dictate our narrative isn’t it ?
Today in the market with one mobile we can sit in our homes and order anything… so it’s not about survival anymore.
When we have so much choice and luxury it’s high time we went for the right kind of food for our system.
Meat isn’t unhealthy in moderation and animal wellfare is getting better many places. I don’t see a problem. I choose to buy from providers that support animal wellfare.
Also we all are biologically different. Some people may easily adapt to vegetarian, while for others it can be problematic/unhealthy. Diet isn’t one size fits all.
I eat hotdogs everyday. Its the hotdogs diet.
Yesterday had 8 hotdogs. Today had 5 so far.
Thats a lot of hotdogs mang
You combine “unhealthy” and “moderation”…
This is a contradiction… why would you eat something that is healthy, in moderation?
It’s like saying cocaine is not a problem when taken in moderation…
Hope you understand.
Also I am not hell bent upon people to quit meat… You can eat whatever works for your system… it’s fine but when you grow more and more in your awareness you naturally would give up meat because it produces a lot of lethargy in the system.
