My therapist says when I hear voices to command them a certain time I’ll listen and not to bother me until then

Ha ha ha ha like that would work…

Anyone heard of this?

I saw a documentary a long time ago about schizophrenic recovery. This guy would set up specific time where he’d engage and talk to the voices. The documentary was following him as he tried to teach or help a female schizophrenic md do the same. The guy seemed to do ok without meds. The goal was to get her to convince the board that she was well enough to practice medicine.

I had a pdoc tell me to yell at the men following me in public. She told me to shout leave me alone! Go away! I’ve done nothing wrong! As if that would help any. Geez. They really don’t get it.

Right when mine are loud they won’t even let me sleep much less take a time out who’s she kidding lol

I’m scared the men will attack me if I yell at them, so no way am I doing that!

Someone told me to try this. No effect other than enaging with voices made me more symptomatic as per usual.

Someone told me about this. I thought it was a helpful suggestion. However I 4got about it during my last few episodes.

In the past when I’ve actively listened to the voices, I get worse. In a way I feel better or more real. But when I did that I could feel strong presence’s in the room around me. Like in specific spots around the room as though someone was standing there.

I think they are hoping you can reason with the voices.
I can kinda reason with them to change their tone but it doesnt stop them from talking when they are happening.

I think it was Eleanor Longden.

We learnt about her in recovery college. She’s an interesting character

I just feel like her being a non sz has no clue what the voices are really like, make sense?

True. But still, if my therapist said it to me, I would still consider it nevertheless. I think.

But yea of course she can’t necessarily really get it.
