On being admitted to both the general hospital and this rehab unit I was asked what I prefer to be called. That being ‘Tim’. Despite that some insist on calling me TImothy which I associate with being disapproved of.
They’re just rushed off their feet nowadays. They’re probably just reading your name off a chart.
It’s not easy naming a child. A lot of thought goes into it. I find it disrespectful when people don’t appreciate their given name. Unless of course it’s something like Helgar. Or Thud. Or Ooof.
I’m sorry you feel that way, they probably called you by the name they have for you on the system. You could ask them to put Tim on the board on the ward so they are more likely to call you Tim.
The preferre d name is written on a board in my room
I’m sorry @firemonkey, they should really make it known in your file somewhere where it is easy to see… I’m not sure if they can change the name on the system though.
They probably think they are being respectful by not calling you Tim. In fact they’ve probably received complaints in the past precisely for using a more ‘familiar’ form of patients’ names.
Yeah, well, I didn’t like David as my first name so I had it legally swapped with one of my middle names. Problem solved.
I like being called Nicholas sometimes. It’s more mysterious and exotic. Like I’m a
Russian spy or something.
I legally changed my name as an adult. Now I get called what I want to be called
I legally changed my last name in 2008.
Was it to someone else’s name or just a name you liked better?
I chose an exotic, uncommon girl’s first name as my last name. It’s pretty and unique, and has nice meaning.
It pissed my parents off (ridiculous - I’m a grown woman).
Lol. That’s actually a bit funny. I’m glad you like your name now
I’m glad you like yours, too!
You’re basically our version of Marilyn Manson.
That’s hawt. HAWT.
For some reason whenever I picture an US citizen….thud or helgar or oooofff comes to mind. Like surely that’s what they are called ?
