Is learning two languages at the same time a good idea?

I’m learning English and I study it everyday. I have already good conversational skills. If you put me in United States, I’ll be able to survive there. But I want to learn another language as well. I’m wondering if it’s a good idea to learn Italian and English at the same time considering that I already have good conversational skills in the last one.

That’s going to be hella hard to do, unless you’re a good multi-tasker.

Your command of English seems good enough that I think you can safely add another language at this point. You’re always going to be learning English, so don’t let that hold you back from learning something else.

If you’re not practicing them both regularly, though, it can be a mess. I know that when I was learning Japanese, it kept getting messed up with my unused (but much stronger) French, like I had a vocabulary bucket in my head that was just labeled “Foreign Language” and I pulled from it indiscriminately. If you catch yourself doing this, you may want to choose which language is most important to you and solely focus on that.

I think that I can add another language. I was thinking on Italian, but maybe it’s not a good idea because I won’t use it too much. Here in Florianópolis, there is a lot of Argetinian folks. I want to visit Chile and Argentine before visiting Italy and Europe. I have an intermediate level of Spanish as well, while I have a basic level of Italian.

I was taking Spanish and Japanese in college the same time. It was fine. It’s up to you

Hmm! Your written English is well and expressive. Can you do Verbalplanet via Skype to utilize your Italian?

You seem pretty good at English. I thought you were a native speaker when I saw your posts. You can likely try learning another language. As others have said. Practice is key!

I’d say go for it. Young children learn two languages at the same time all the time in bilingual households.

I can learn Korean and Spanish at the same time, since they are both are different.

Thank you for the answers, guys! I’m already studying Spanish and I think it’s awesome. I found a website called Universia with many articles in Argentinian Spanish. I’m studying these articles and it’s fun because I train the language and, at the same time, I get information.

is one of them klingon?

If you’re fairly solid with one then it’s fine to start another. However if you were on like beginner/novice level with one it would not be wise to start another.

If you waited until you had perfectly mastered one language before starting another you could spend your whole life on just one language!! Lol

Certainly it can be done. You’re posting about it so really I think you already know what you want to do whether it is a good idea or not. All you’ll get from us is at best semi-educated guesses. Everyone’s different! You just may be the type of person that will do fine, or even great at learning two languages simultaneously.

Best of luck to you sir! I tip my hat to you.

Its a good idea. I like russian

I’ve been watching little Pim Arabic. I’ll have to watch it a lot b4 I catch on.
