I don’t think it’s psychotic to cut your own hair. I’ve trimmed off some dead ends or evened up the front when it gets in my eyes…
Now if you shave off the eyebrows… that might a different story.

Well I showed my mom and she made me go to the barber. Now I look like a military man. Doesn’t look bad though.
I buzz my own. #2 brush with electric clippers. Saves me $240/year. I don’t give a crap what my hair looks like so long as it’s not in my face. I think of it as sensible and thrifty.
