I have a diagnosed IQ of 69 but maybe this is incurrent? My team says it’s not in my interest to be tested again and won’t do it unless I really punched for it.
You would likely encounter learning difficulties in training and education, but your daily functioning in most areas of everyday life should be ok.
Just from how you post, I highly doubt that you’re IQ is that low
Something is amiss
I second that, it’s probably higher.
You come across as having a much higher IQ than 69
I don’t think our exact IQ number matters.
I dont value IQ Numbers, I like personality better.
Simple jack had an i.q. of 5
I canny nor read or right innit dawg.
I agree with that a lot. The verbal ability indicates more than a 69 IQ. If we take the verbal IQ as 100 the non-verbal IQ would have to be about 49 for 69 IQ +/-7. If 90 the non-verbal IQ would have to be about 58 for 69 IQ +/-7 . I very much doubt a person with such a low non-verbal IQ could manage going abroad on their own. Of course it may be that Bobbilly is accompanied by a staff member.
For someone with an IQ of 69. You certainly are very eloquent with the language you use in your posts.
Schizophrenia is the only disease that can fluctuate cognition, so I doubt IQ tests can really be applied to our kind.
Personally, I think IQ scores exist so some narcissist somewhere, at some time, can gratify themselves thinking that they are smarter than you.
The smarter a narcissist is, the more destructive they can be. Which is a deadly combination.
I also think god made stupid people, so that their follies could help end the career of overconfident narcissist. They feel like they control everything, just before the court jester enters the room with several barrels of TNT, while smoking a cigar.
In ‘Art of War’ it was said that the stupid man has no fear of death. Coincidentally a very good trait to have, when offing those very same narcissists.
My own experience leads me to believe there’s a variety of reasons why people are interested in their IQ scores. 1)Plain and simple curiosity. 2) Narcissism. That can be of the ‘I’m better than all those dumb plebs’ variety, or of the ‘I’m hard done by because there are so few people I can have a meaningful conversation with’ variety. 3) Insecurity and low self worth. I’m very much in that category. It’s fuelled by the effects of bullying related trauma. I was treated by my peers at prep-and public school as a rather dumb weirdo.
I read that IQ is largely genetic. There is fluid and crystalized intelligence.
When I was at community college I tried really hard to improve my intelligence.
When I got schizophrenia, I felt really dumb. I currently feel that way now.
There’s some evidence IQ can improve in people, but it’s largely predetermined I think.
I don’t seem to be able to work or finish college. I think I have to re-evaluate my life goals and be realistic. I’m stuck in a rut.
It was assumed I had an average intelligence, but lately it feels below average. My functioning is really low compared to before my illness.
Schizophrenia can lower IQ, and it negatively impacts one’s ability to work and have a fulfilling life.
I read that schizophrenics have cognitive difficulties growing up, and prodomal symptoms can worsen one’s IQ before the illness.
It can get worse over time or level out.
Personally, medications can improve cognitive functioning, but sometimes I feel mixed about this. I’ve tried games that improve cognition with limited success.
I’m sure diet and exercise can help.
I never graduated college and have given up on those dreams. I can’t seem to work either. I am pretty limited in what I can do.
Cognition is a broad term. I think depression, anxiety, and personality play a large role too in functioning. I think a person’s background and how they were raised as well as genetics play a role.
I never had an official IQ test. I’m not sure why, but I’d had to pay at least a couple hundred dollars to get one.
Before I got schizophrenia, I could work and go to school at the same time. I encountered difficulties even back then. Nothing major. I would go to the gym and do other things most people could do.
I was smart, in shape, motivated, and had energy.
I think having a good support system and a non-critical, encouraging family can make a difference.
You’re going on better vacays than me @bobbilly. Seems like you’re holding your own!
When it comes to achieving things I’m increasingly of the belief that good executive functioning + hard work > very superior IQ + poor executive functioning. The latter one being me.
