I had a collection agency call me today wanting $2000 from me for an involuntary hospital committal 2 years ago. They held me for several months. I told them I’m not going to pay it because I was brought in involuntarily and when she put me on hold I hung up. I don’t think it’s right for them to hold me against my will and then expect me to pay for it out of my own pocket. Whatever they got out of insurance should be enough as far as I’m concerned. What do you think? Should I pay out $2000 or should I tell them to get lost?
I’d tell them to get lost but it really depends if there would be repercussions
Unfortunately you are legally liable to pay the money. I was court ordered into psychiatric treatment back in 2008, and I had a $35,000.00 to $40,000.00 bill. I did the only thing I could legally do and filed for bankruptcy.
If you can’t afford it, you can wait or not pay. They don’t usually hold medical bills against you. I don’t know if you’re responsible, since you didn’t seek services. Most doctors or hospitals have you sign an agreement about charges. So you probably didn’t.
If you are on Social Security, they can’t legally garnish your Social Security check. Also your bank account can’t be garnished drawing it below the amount of your Social Security check. But they can take anything over the amount of your check if you have savings.
I would think you would still have to go to court before they could do any of those things though.
True. They have to get a Court Order to garnish. They probably won’t pursue only $2,000.00. In my case, the amount I owed was worth pursuing.
I got an 125 euro bill. I was like get lost, but payed it, i dont have insurance its different here…
Never going there again, Rather stay home.
i think they gonna find a way to make you pay. It’s really unfair though.
