I’m on a temp contract but perm jobs are soon going to become available. I’ve already proved myself but I can’t do interviews. I don’t think I’m gonna apply
I’m scared of stuttering and not coming up with the correct things to say. I got this job because even though i gave a rubbish interview I actually followed up with a letter saying thanks for interviewing me.
It doesn’t matter how good you are at the interview. It’s just a formality so they can hire you on full time. They wouldn’t offer the interview if they didn’t already want to hire you.
Oh wait. I didn’t understand fully. It still doesn’t matter. Companies are highly more likely to hire someone they already know. Even if the interview sucks, which I doubt it will. If it helps your confidence, do some practice interviews beforehand with your family. There are also places in the US where you can do mock interviews and get advice on how to improve. I don’t know if the UK has something similar, but it might be worth looking into.
There are a few tricks you can use to get your confidence up.
Buy a suit or put together a polished outfit. You can pick a power color for your blouse. Wear comfortable, but dressy shoes. (There’s no need to be skulking around in heels if you’re not used to them. I’m not.) Pick out some jewelry that has a special significance or presence. A necklace will do to communicate your put-togetherness.
For the conversation, start with your first job (mine was picking blueberries on my grandparents’ farm), or your first success as child or teen. If you worked at a minimum wage job expound upon how that made you hungry for your future career. If you don’t have an interesting way to present your first job, talk about a project or paper which you feel proud of.
The key to your future is in your past. You just have to spin it the right way.
I think that the interview might be a little easier than usual because they know you and they know your work. Employers want to hire people who are the best workers. They want to hire people who get along with co-workers. If you proved yourself as you say, than you already crossed the two main hurdles. The rest of the interview is just not doing anything stupid. You should be able to coast through it.
