I'm stuck working 5 10.5 hour shifts in a row

The work week/pay period is considered Sunday to Saturday.

I was scheduled to work wed to sat at 10.5 and then I could go part time.

However, I’m part of the “flex” program where you have to compete with others for shifts on a first come, first serve basis.

I’m still trying to figure out exactly when these shifts open.

You have to get like 3 or 4 hours a week or they terminate your employment.

Anywho, when I went online to schedule next week, the only things open were Sunday hours and 2.5 hours on Monday.

So, I had no choice but to take a shift on Sunday in order to get my hours in.

So now I am working Wednesday thru Saturday from 7:30am to 6pm and then Sunday from 3:30 pm to 2am.

I am not thrilled with the 10.5 hours 5 days in a row. I was fairly burnt out last week from just the 4 in row. Im really going to have to push to get through again.

I will really be able to be on part time soon, and I should get 6 days off after that, but it is really going to be a pain getting through the 5 day stretch.

When I originally signed up for this, it was stated on the internet as a 19 hour a week job.

I have no idea how it turned from that to full time, to whatever you call this now.

Not trying to complain. I really want to keep the job. I just am really not looking forward to 52.5 hours straight in a row like this.

IDK.

I guess it will all be over in a week and i can try to work out this “Flex” schedule thing to my advantage.

Are you still in the training period?

I guess. They had us train the first week and then set up a 2 week schedule at full time, which I guess is so we can get practice at our jobs. It should drop off after this stretch…but what a stretch it is…

Yeah that sounds like a lot.

Do you like it?

I’m not sure “like” is the best word. I like that I can mostly work alone and do my own thing. It is kind of fast paced and exhausting though. I like getting paid :stuck_out_tongue: . It is not something i would choose to do for free. But there arent many people that have jobs that they can say they would.

I kind of like it, I guess.

That’s alot of hours and very lengthy shifts. Make sure you’re not putting your physical health and mental health at risk. Also, if you’re on disability, make sure you are not jeopardizing those benefits.

sounds like they got you where they want you…if you can handle this load you can do any job you f’n want…stop working if you want to…not fair.

im currently under review. I let my “auditor” or whatever you call them know that I was only working full time for 3 weeks during training and then would be dropping down to part time.

Thats not necessarily true. Just because I can force 3 weeks, doesnt mean I could maintain this forever. Its pure willpower getting me through at this point. It would likely run out eventually.

Fortunately, I dont have to do it forever. I just have to make 3 weeks. After sunday, I will have
6 days off.

I just have to push through 4 more days now.

It would be pretty crappy if they had me on outpatient commital but somehow justified saying that IM not diasabled. If im not disabled, why am I on outpatient?

Just make sure you report all your income to Social Security.

It’s great that you work. It must be hard with age and especially schizophrenia. Kudos to you!

Yeah, iM trying. I tried calling to report it and they gave sent me to a pdf of stuff I already knew. I dont know how to report it.

Well, you have to figure out how to report it or you could get in trouble for not reporting it. Call your local office.

Yeah, you seem like a responsible adult who takes care of his own business and responsibilities but maybe your mom or a family friend can talk to social security on the phone or in person and help you navigate social securities rules and procedures.

When I lived by myself I took care of myself and all my business with social security but one time I ran into a problem where someone was collecting my SSDI check in another state and my sister volunteered to go into social security with me to straighten out the mess.

Thanks @77nick77 . I doubt my parents will want to deal with it, but I will try to get it sorted next week. I wont let them hang up on me next time just to send me information i already knew
