I think that if I started a fairly hard workout now I could stave off some of the natural decline of aging. I’m 64 years old, though, so it might be futile. How about you? How are you doing, with your health and physical vigor.
Im 53 and all I do is a lot of walking, I try to get 10 thousands steps a day.
I walk and go on my exercise bike. I have the strength to open jars
My balance/coordination/gait have never been good ,but have definitely worsened over the last few years. I have had a lot of lower backache. Found out that I have scoliosis. Had falls in Oct 2021. The pain was assessed as being all in my head according to paramedics and GP. I was real bad pain but did my best with the physio. Eventually got an x ray that revealed a broken femur/hip. Had partial hip op, and then 2 weeks or so in general hospital and about the same in physical rehab unit.
It’s been slow progress, and doubtful I’ll get back to my previous level of mobility. My daughter at my last video appointment with the pdoc reckoned I can walk about 50 metres with a walker. I can walk about half that unaided, before having to stop and pause for several minutes and then start walking again . Indoors I walk unaided. There are things I can hold onto and/or prop myself against. After doing something like going to the bedroom and moving the laundry basket to the washing machine in the kitchen diner area I have to take a break, as my back is really aching. Outdoors in wide open spaces with little to hold onto, or prop myself against, is a non-starter re walking unaided.
One of the major problems with the decline of my physical strength is that I might need to be able to fight much younger guys. I hope it doesn’t come to that. Maybe it is best that I stopped thinking about physical prowess and looked for other ways to ensure my safety.
