I’ve just realised this and now it’s driving me bananas.
It was so much a part of my psyche that I didn’t even notice, until I did.
Now I’m not sure what to do.

j/k!!
Funny
I needed that. Thanks @el_Jimbobbio
What’s wrong with doing the right thing?
Gotta loosen up a bit maybe? I can understand being overly moral obsessively. But go easy on yourself!
That’s a pretty good thing to be obsessed about. The world needs more of it
I think you need to ask yourself an important question - what happens to me if I am not moral?
If you can answer that question ( and you don’t need to share that answer with us because this thread could get locked for moving into a religious discussion ) but if you can figure out if it is normal thoughts that everyone in the world has about being a good person or if your thoughts are running out of control into delusional territory that something out of the ordinary will happen if you are not a moral person. I hope that helps.
Can you accept yourself and continue to do so. I live in the highest morality from my parents regarding sex and drugs and money. I am personally ashamed at times and struggling personally but want to continue on and accept my morality.
correct your morals where you can…forgive yourself for morals you break.
It’s okay to want to do the right thing, but it’s also important not to beat yourself up when you don’t follow your ethics sometimes. Doing the right thing is necessary but part of being human is about making mistakes and learning from them.
What is your motivation for your obsession of determining whether something is good or bad or right or wrong?
Whether something is good or bad or right or wrong, to one degree or another, is subjective. Sure there are things that the vast majority of people will agree as to whether they’re right or wrong, but those things are in the minority.
Some people say that breaking the law is always wrong, but then they read the Heinz dilemma and change their mind. Or some people believe the right thing to do is to break the law because the law is unjust (Rosa Parks did that). Or sometimes there is no good choice, and many people will conclude that the right thing to do is to choose the lesser of two evils (which people will disagree as to which is which).
We all decide for ourselves what is good or bad or right or wrong. Sometimes those decisions are easy to make, but sometimes they’re extremely difficult and personal.
I don’t think it’s a problem. To me, too many people seem obsessed with doing the wrong thing.
I wonder if I’m subconsciously “bargaining” with the universe. I do the right thing and the universe will look after me.
Now that you put it in those terms it sounds a lot like anxiety - average anxiety, I mean.
That’s what I thought.
You’re doing good things not solely because they’re good things without any expectation of something in return; you’re doing good things as some type of insurance policy in case there is something after we die.
At times, I do that also. At least it motivates us to do good things.
I suggest we would in a better world if more people kept ethics front and center in their thinking and tried to act morally more often.
I’m trying to put things right with one of the other tenants on our estate.
