When I crossed the border to Canada for vacation last year, they just wanted to know why I was there, where I was staying, who I was with. No questions asked about jobs or disability/retirement, lol. It was harder crossing the border back into the US.

If you plan on staying in Canada then they may ask you more questions.

@Skims… if they asked you were you working what would you say@

I’d be honest, you don’t want to get caught in a lie with the government.

I traveled to Italy when I was unemployed. They didn’t ask too many questions about it. I just had to provide the address where I would be staying and how long I would be there for. The US might give you more trouble, but they can’t deport you for being unemployed. They just might ask you invasive questions about why you’re visiting. And then they’ll feel like jerks when you say it’s for a funeral.

Not to be whatever… but could you get a copy of the death certificate or something like that to have to show customs? I mean if the person was a relative…I don’t know if this is a good idea.

Is there any way you can get out of going to the funeral?

Customs won’t ask you about your health. They will only ask where you’re going, why you’re going there, and how long you’ll be staying for.

And they probably won’t even ask you that much. Canada has the friendliest border I’ve ever experienced. I live right over the border, so I go all the time. They barely even glance at my passport. They just open it to the correct page, stamp it, and smile. Even when I was unemployed.

I use cheapoair
But if you might change dates at a later time, book with the airline directly.

When you say you are unemployed, the conversation ends there. If they get suspicious, say you are there for a funeral. I don’t think you should disclose your health issues.

Make sure you are not bringing lots of cigarettes, alcohol or food.
