If you were me (2 different dx'd)

I found out today that i am not only diagnosed with sza bipolar, but sz unspecified as well

  1. do any of you have this combo
  2. if you were me, if necessary, would you tell people both, or just say schizophrenia.

Also id like to hear what sz unspecified is besides from what i see on google

Hey, well, kind of the same situation-

I just tell people it could be either diagnosis.

I want to say myself, panoaride schizophrenia as well as split mind.

I think it means mixed personality disorder or other specified in the dsm5 or something, its not as bad as sz but its a combination of personality disorders, i still think i have undelying sz though.

Id need a scientific source to be sure of that. A quick google search says that no type of schizophrenia is a personality disorder

me too. bipolar and schizophrenia usually adds up to a schizoaffective diagnosis though

yeah split personality is something different you want Dissociative Identity Disorder for that

Schizophrenia is all about not being able to tell delusion from reality.

I’m schizoaffective bipolar.

I usually address the dominant issue, I tell people that I have schizophrenia but leave out the depression

I’m diagnosed schizoaffective and paranoid schizophrenia. I just say schizophrenia when asked

I would say schizophrenia… considering most people know and understand that one

On a side note. I always hide my diagnosis to avoid the stigma usually. Unless the rare situation where u need to talk about your mental illness with anyone

I had no idea you could be dx’d with both. Thanks for sharing @LilyoftheValley

Once they give a diagnosis, they can’t remove it from the chart is what I’ve been told. So it was one diagnosis then the other. Not sure which was given when

I just dont tell people anything. Easier that way. Just a few family members thats it

I never tell anyone, only close family knows. Unless it serves a purpose, why tell, is what I live by.

A doctor once told me that I have bipolar with comorbid schizophrenia

Mainly bipolar with a dash of schizophrenia (schizoaffective)

I relayed this bit of information to my current psychiatrist and she agreed

I really don’t care about diagnoze,it’s just something they put on you …

As long as I have meds, they could diagnoze me with anything

I always thought unspecified was what they’d say if it wasn’t clear what type of schizophrenia(that’s where the word unspecified comes in I guess). Honestly it doesn’t matter. I know a lot of schizophrenics and where all different with different symptoms and a different way of experiencing the illness.

That combo sounds like they are still in the process of coming to a full diagnostic conclusion to me?

I think that the sz unspecified is still on the list after my dr concluded I have sza bipolar bc an earlier poster said they don’t take diagnoses off the chart

Is it all one pdoc? Cause its common for one pdoc to claim one diagnosis and another pdoc to think its a completely different one. If you put 10 pdocs in a room with one mental health patient, they would probably argue all day haha.
