If you had your druthers, would you rather go deaf or go blind?

I would rather go blind. My 2nd recital didn’t go very well but I sure had a pretty dress on. That fact, however, did not save me. The first recital, which I really worked hard for, got a rave review in the college newspaper. That was much more fulfilling than watching people’s eyes bug when they looked at me in my gown.

Having your druthers means having what you’d rather have.

You can be deaf and still function well and be employable. Blind people cannot function well enough to be easily employable. (Can’t drive, can barely use a computer, can’t use a touch screen interface, can’t participate properly in a video work call, etc.) I had a blind mom so I’m very aware of the limitations of that handicap. I have also had to learn to sign as I’m going deaf.

My father was partially sighted and went to blind school when young. Id choose to go deaf than blind.

I’ll keep my druthers to myself. I’m always careful with my druthers, you never know when a new one will come along, it’s been a bad year for druthers.

Don’t worry, I won’t tell any deaf people your mistake.

I’m just too lazy to learn sign and tired of yelling at a partially deaf housemate.

Deaf, I’m a computer programmer so it would be very difficult if I was blind.
