years passed i still want it. but its hard to keep. they get sick very often. not sure if i can pet it as needed

I have a tortoise, shes delightful. They are pretty hardy after a certain amount of time, but most species get too big for people to keep. Do a lot of research for the species you want, and stick with smaller species such as Herman’s, Greek, or Russian.
I have a red footed tortoise and when she is full grown she’ll likely be larger than a dinner plate.
Remember, they are a lifelong commitment. I’ll probably die before my tort does, but she is a wonderful pet.
