I went to a binge eating group today

It was in a church building. That atmosphere sometimes makes me emotional, like today, perhaps due to deep memories from my past.

I told them I don’t know to surrender to God because I’m psychotic and heard God’s voice

So no idea what to trust.

Was literally shedding tears for half the meeting.

Has anyone ever attended 12 step programme meeting and what was your experience like.

I found the ppl to be lovely.

It doesn’t have to be god, your higher power can just be the group.

I’m in AA. It got me sober, and I’m an atheist.

When they were reading some book in the circle it kept mentioning god.

Apparently god can be anything outside of self. Yea. I guess. It’s just annoying that god has such a strong association with being the creater of da universe, the almighty, powerful etc… Its really… Daunting.

Yea I felt a nice connection too. True that. It’s not bad.

I’ve been to over a 1000 AA, CA and NA meetings. There were a few bad groups but overall, most of the time, most people were cool and friendly. I really wanted to get clean badly so when I was asked to share I would do it, whether it was in front of a hundred people or two people. I was in the program 3 years before I got a sponsor; when I finally got one, I worked the steps and called him when I needed to. They say it’s a simple program but not an easy one.

I think a good solution to binge eating is self care. I think turning to food for happiness comes when we don’t feel healthy. That’s just my opinion.

I do it due to low self esteem

My sister did the 12 step program and she said she received so much support and encouragement there, and made so many lifelong friends in that group.

This could be a way for you to heal from binge eating and make some great friends in the process.

I’m a man of faith.
I pray and think a lot about God.

But…
Why meetings are held in Christian church …
What if someone is Muslim?
Will he feel alright with that?

It now bothers me a lot …

But I think. Christians embrace all faiths tho idk lmao.

It’s in a church because the cost to have it there is cheaper than anywhere else.
