I was so surprised when I learned

a dog wouldn’t just do what I said. Have you developed the quality of command in your voice that will make a dog listen? It’s not quite the same as “Here kitty kitty”.

Neither listen if they don’t want to or if they don’t trust you. Trust is most important

I think they will listen if they get food as a reward.

I raise my dogs through spending lots of time, and talking to them. I don’t use treats, but they listen and understand words through lots of words through a lot of talking.

See that’s what I am saying. Trust

My dog won’t accept treats or food from anyone other than me. So food wouldn’t be a motivator for him to listen to someone else.

My dog has huge trust issues. I adopted her from my sister 7 years ago and she was always weird. She won’t let most people near her. She’s really sweet and will bark at you and wag her tail but once you reach out she’ll jump back. She even second guesses me. Like when I give her food she takes her time and seems a little timid. I’m like cmon syd it’s the same food I gave you second ago, you don’t need to check it out. I never really thought of it as trust so much as her just being a puss. Maybe it is a little trust stuff.
