I am hoping for a raise at work so I can learn from lessons. I donāt want to learn on my own and pick up bad habits. I am most interested in playing classical acoustic guitar.
Does anyone do anything like this? Do you want to?

Iād love to learn guitar unfortunately I canāt get my hands on one that works.
Hey~ Iāve been playing guitar for 7 years and self taught.
If youāre into more classical guitar I do think youād wanna get lessons and learn proper technique.
But learning a few chords first if you have a guitar might come in handy. And hey, if you just wanna have fun or impress your buddies with some songs (if you like to sing) then you can always go on YouTube and type in ābeginner songs for guitarā. Usually theseāll be songs with only 4 chords max so itās a good way to start
I started by watching āJustinās Guitarā videos and practicing out of a Methodology book. Justin has books in addition to the videos.
Oh I remember watching his vids when I was first starting out too! He teaches really well^^
My brother in law bought my husband a nice acoustic guitar. I have been wanting to learn but waiting for my husband to first so he can teach me. Iām not very good with my fingers. Its hard to switch strings for me.
With cognitive impairment its hard to remember chords and progress it furthur⦠poor meā¦!!!
I played guitar in my late teens and early twenties. A couple of years ago I bought a $1,200 acoustic guitar when I was manic.
The guitar sits under my bed and does not get played. I keep it as a reminder of things not to do when manic.
I hope to play it again one day.
I used to play guitar a little bit. Can remember basic chords and stuff. Nothing fancy.
For classical guitar you definitely want to get lessons. But thereās nothing wrong with experimenting on your own and developing your own sound. The most influential electric guitarist in history was self taught. Thatās Hendrix.
But clasical guitar is a different beast that requires knowledge of how to read music. I say go for it. Itās a great coping skill.
I used to be a very good guitar player. now i donāt play anymoreā¦
good luck. lessons are a good idea, I tried the self taught method and ended up running into bad habits to where I basically had to start over and go back to the beginning.
I used to take lessons in acoustic classical guitar. But, I was so very suicidally depressed then that I couldnāt focus on my studies and I never practiced much and it frustrated my teacher, so, I quit my lessons.
Today, I take lessons in classical piano. And have been doing so consistently for the past twelve years. And I donāt plan on ever quitting. I started taking piano lessons at the age of 46.
How sad, @Om_Sadasiva.
I play guitar. Itās my favorite thing to do when Iām alone. Have fun with your new hobby and good luck with your progress.
I am self taught on guitarā¦if you want to learn classical I think getting lessons is really good idea. Might be really hard thoughā¦it wouldnāt hurt to learn some chords like others here have mentioned first just to get the feel for the guitar.
Looks like a nice one! Are you going to take lessons?
Yes, I am. Iām pricing teachers right now.
