Actually I wasn’t even allowed to shoot them until I was like 13 yo. And even then I almost shot out some little kids eye. It would have been an accident, and not my fault, but still.

I’m not allowed in Virginia any more because at one point I was crazy enough not to be trusted. I don’t think that should be permanent but it probably is.
Wouldn’t really want one anyway, but I get why people own them now that I’ve lived in a much rougher area.
My area is low income. But it’s pretty low crime.
I think carrying is just the thing to do around here so that’s what people do.

That’s why I don’t carry.
A few of us (admittedly) on this board know ourselves and that we can not own guns.
I’m sure there’s more.
Also, I didn’t grow up around guns so I don’t really understand what they’re for.
I’m from a. Big city with big city problems. AFAIK guns kill people. Long guns are different. But yes, even without MI you need to be damn confident in your emotions to conceal carry. Or in my case: to even own a firearm
I would never own a gun.
That’s all I have to say on the matter.

Really cool and enlightened of a sz forum to be normalising gun ownership to the point of promoting schizos’ god given right to own an AK47. Of course not a word about the immense suffering and staggering death toll unique to the US brought about by this primitive gun culture. You’re more likely to get suspended on this forum for drinking a beer than for posting from your local shooting range. Can’t wait for armed forum members to cowardly flag my comment.

It depends on why you want the gun. A twelve gauge automatic shotgun might be good for home defense. Load it up with .00 buckshot and clear out a couple of home invaders. I’ve sometimes thought an Uzi might be good for home defense.

And for the record, I wasn’t normalizing it. Just saying that some people can own. I recognize some cannot.
I support common sense laws like any good citizens and if guns were banned, I’d be in line to hand mine in.
Some of us have the ability to own.

This is incorrect.
If this was the case, we would have thousands of SMI people murdering each other if we assumed that SMI causes violent tendencies.
There are 2 million people with psychosis (probably more than that since psychosis occurs in neurological diseases). We certainly don’t have 2 million murderers; otherwise we would all be dead.
The SMI people who murder others are only a small portion of murders that happened. It’s just convenient for media to use events like that to get more people to watch the news.
You ask me to be mature about it yet your response is to dismiss my comment without examining its contents and patronisingly accusing me of throwing a fit. Is this your usual way of dealing with criticism?
Having a mature discussion about it involves the willingness to discuss both the intended and unintended effects of current gun legislation in the US. By attempting to put under the rug the countless ‘unintended’ victims of gun violence, way in excess of any country in the developed world, you’re only succeeding in illustrating the callous and reality-denying nature of your gun culture.

Almost no one have a gun here.
Even illegally, it is difficult to obtain a gun. Even Islamist terrorists and far-right terrorists can’t, and when they do, it’s already too late for them.
I would not want weapons because violence incites violence. But it is not in my culture and each culture is different. And History of each country is different.

I was like nine years old when my Dad gave me a semiautomatic 22 caliber rifle. When I was so f*ing crazy in my twenties, I later gave away my rifle in an attempt at future damage control.
