I want to contribute

I’m trying to save up some money to move with in a couple of years. I donated $30 to the homeless shelter, and am afraid to tell my sister. She tells me not to give my money away. I feel like donating is the right thing to do. I just feel bad about going against what my sister says. I also donated maybe $40 to my church.

I dont see why not as long as its not excessive and if you have extra unneeded money, its your money after all.

And if this is really what you want.

You do what you think is right and don’t worry about what others think. :turtle::turtle::turtle:

If you’re saving up to move in a couple of years, I’d do what your sister says. Otherwise you could be homeless.

My parents donate money to church monthly or yearly cant remember. They send us a form with a return envelope to put money in.

I really want to give something back for what I have received.

I say let the rich people donate. Their donations dwarf ours anyway.

It’s good that you are altruistic though!

Thanks @agent101g

As long as it’s within a working budget, I don’t see the problem. You’re very generous. Just make sure you can still have the money you need

I’d listen to your sister. Theres so many people in need anyone could give away all they have and not make a difference. Its good to give, but your sister is thinking practically

It is okay to donate, but if you need it to survive, best not to

Try giving $10 instead of $40. Or help out in some other way. Just a thought

Thanks @Cragger . I just checked my checkbook, and that’s what I donated for April and May. I’ll try to keep it to $10 or so.

My church is on budget with their donations. The homeless shelter is behind.

Donating to needed causes is good for the soul. Not like you’re hurting yourself by giving small amounts here and there. Don’t give so much that you can’t save enough to move, but if it’s not hurting anyone I think it’s a generally good thing to do. Alternately, if you want to help a cause but don’t have the money to give yourself, you could help them in other ways. Like volunteering for helping them fundraise.
