My family, my religion, and my upbringing taught me to be humble. Now, finally, I see the virtue of having self-confidence. It’s a good thing. It shouldn’t be disparaged.
I want to be a good person who is confident.

It’s been a long time since I read it, but in Somerset Maugham’s “Of Human Bondage” there is a tiny episode about this guy who was fiercely intellectual with broad shoulders, and a painter captured that aura in a painting. But then another guy read some of the stuff this “fiercely intellectual” man had written, and it was total garbage. The guy was an idiot.
