I threw a chunk of money down the drain

I had to get rid of two boxes of paperback comic books when I moved from the room I was renting last year into the place I’m living now. In fact I had to get rid of most of my possessions because the room I moved into is so small and I have no extra space. I kept some personal stuff from my childhood and some valuables but I gave away a lot of cool stuff.

The cartoon paperbacks were, MAD’s, Archies, Disney’s, “B.C”, Peanuts etc.
I bought most of them myself when I was in elementary school and even high school back in the 1970’s and they were in great condition. Two nights ago, on a whim, I went on e-bay to see roughly how much people were paying for the identical comic paperbacks I gave away.

I was shocked. For just ONE of the books I had gotten rid of, people were bidding $9.00 or $10.00 PER BOOK. I felt sick and kicked myself mentally. I had two full boxes of the books, I probably gave away at least a $200.00 or more worth of books. The worth of books depend on their condition and what the market will pay for them but my books were in great condition. I’m trying to not dwell on this and not feel bad about it but it was one major mistake that’s been depressing me still, even two days later.

I don’t have a good head for popular tastes and current trends. One time I was at the local library, and they were having a book sale, and I found an uncensored version for D.H. Lawerence’s “Sons and Lovers”. I thought surely that was worth some money. I tried selling it on ebay and nobody wanted it. Then this guy had this “Chuckee” doll from the movie “Chuckee”. People were willing to pay over two-hundred dollars for one in good condition. That shows you how much I know.

I don’t know much either but I learned that the market for objects fluctuates depending on demand. One thing can be valuable one day for it’s rarity or it’s condition, and then a year later the market may be flooded with the exact same thing and it will drop down the worth significantly.

I’m kicking myself for a similar reason. We need to buy a new freezer, and order wood pellets for the winter, and now that I don’t work anymore, we can’t use my employee discount. We are easily losing out on $60 because I had to be crazy! But, we just have to let these things go. Can’t change the past.

Sorry bro, I hope you don’t continue to beat yourself up over it. I did the same thing with my fathers comic books he gave me. Ah well…

This uncensored version of D.H. Lawerance’s book was copyrighted 1993, so it had probably come out in mass. If you could find something like the original manuscript it would probably be worth a fortune.

I would say your right.

That’s such a rotten feeling! Don’t beat yourself up over it, you weren’t to know.

Yeah, I liked them too. I used to watch their cartoons on TV when I was younger.

Aw, that sucks man! My mom has this collection of classical records. She thinks they will be worth something, but I don’t think so. I find myself rolling my eyes when she talks about their worth though. Lol!

I use to collect the star wars (All three movies) trading cards back in the 70/80’s. Threw them in the bin as just wanted them gone when I hit 13. Must be worth a total fortune by now.
