Is there any work in your area once you’ve graduated? I’d find out before you accumulate a student debt. If you want to go into illustration, I’d look at the site called Schoolism. They charge $300 for a year’s membership and you’ll have access to all kinds of video courses. Though, you said you had trouble learning from a book, so I don’t know if you could learn from videos. Are videos easier for you to learn from?

In my area, it seemed very hard to find stable work (I have a college diploma in graphic design). The industry is extremely competitive and my shyness caused problems. I was always in and out of work as a graphic designer. I started getting mentally ill because I was so sad I couldn’t just find a job and move out of my parents home. It turned my self esteem to mince meat. Then my illness made it harder to hold a job in graphic design. It was a vicious circle.

To make things worse, employers tended to hire bilingual graphic designers too, designers who knew both French and English (something that the course instructors downplayed would be a problem).

I also never learned to drive (because of anxiety, at first, then the hallucinations), and travelling to printer companies to proof comps was very difficult by bus. The printers always seemed to be on the outskirts of the city, and if they were in the downtown area, they had to pay sky high rent, and charged much more.

Favorite. Displate - lots o good work not necessarily professional but looks great. Lots of fan art.

Dribble and Behance are both portfolio like for professional work and Dribbble has a good comment section to read what people are saying about good work posted.
