I think it's time I see therapy

Been putting it off for a while. Kinda scared of talking about my experiences semi regularly but its time. My delusions have come back and the voices are started to shout, muffled for now. Not sure which therapy to go too; group therapy, Acceptance and commitment therapy, or CBT. What worked best for you?

I go to CBT. It’s a struggle to learn and use it but I can definitely see how it could work well.

does the therapist go indepth on your condition for CBT or is CBT the same for everyone?

The therapist trouble shoots your personal experiences with you to find more accurate thoughts about it.

Do you find therapy helps with delusions?

I just started CBT a few months ago. It isn’t something that comes naturally so I haven’t even been able to do it on my own. I bring up situations in my therapy sessions and then we work through it together. Outside therapy I haven’t been able to find more accurate thoughts. It’s just too hard for me. Soon I hope though

I don’t think it’s one of those “if it works for other people, then it’ll work for me.” you probably know yourself more than we do. so you might know which therapy is best suited for your situation better than we might know. another thing that might help is going to the nearby hospitals and getting details about therapies they offer, so that you can make the best educated decision.

or better yet, you can even get a doctor to guide you to the right therapy.

thanks man that’s really helpful.

I was so defensive when I started therapy blocking with humor mostly it an hour to get my name rank and serial number. Biggest regret now is not starting it a long time ago.

I had bigger breakthroughs in therapy getting lost in trying a few of the different therapies. Think that it is all trial and error of finding a good tdoc and which therapy does work best for you.

Did you do ACT, @Dreamscape2? I seem to remember you talking about it.

ACT was brought to Australia by Dr Russ Harris he has written two books on the subject The Happiness Trap and The Reality Slap. Which was part of my CBT homework. Which is my knowledge and the extent of involvement with ACT. Have found it extremely useful. Owning the books can look back on it anytime also. Is also available from my local library so did read it through before buying a copy.

I see my Phd therapist every week.
We don’t follow one particular therapy style.

I just like seeing her on a regular basis.
She is someone I can can vent to and we come up with solutions to my problems.

I guess she does utilize CBT techniques on me

I like my therapist she is very nice, my previous therapist was nice too but she asked a lot about how stuff made me feel and that got old fast. therapy helps some of us and others just can’t quite develop the trust needed for a therapist to help someone.
