I may have to fly on an airplane

My Uncle has cancer and it spread into his liver and all over his body.
He is on morphine and will enter a palliative care facility soon.
Sadly it’s just a matter of days or weeks.
This is my father’s brother and he’s taking it hard but is slowly accepting it.

My Uncle lives in Canada and my father wants to attend the funeral.

This means that I’m going to have to fly up there too.

I’m my fathers caregiver and he’s dependent on me.

I haven’t flown in decades and am extremely anxious but I have to go.

My brother will be coming with us.

Make sure you have the paperwork for any meds you bring with you. Especially benzos.

Sorry to hear about your uncle.

There’s no paperwork involved but my doctor told me to keep all my meds in their original bottles that came from the pharmacy, including benzos.
Thanks @everhopeful

I’m not a fan of flying, but honestly for me its the airport itself that is stressful/anxiety provoking not being in the air. So many people and so much rushing around OR standing in line for ages having all your stuff searched. I just hate it. At least it isn’t a long journey. Flying across continents is knackering.

Yeah because of my paranoia the worst part is going through security.
Getting on the plane is also stressful.
I hope I’ll manage through it all.

Although I’m sure my brother will help me

He is an experienced traveler

Don’t forget to take a prn with you.

I always take some extra clozapine when I have to do long flights.

I see your quite anxious, but I am sure you will be fine. Just try to remain calm and relaxed thru the whole process of boarding and flying. To do this bring a book , make sure you got music download and ready to play while boarding and flying to keep your mind focused elsewhere is the best.

Flying over to Montreal is a short flight of maybe an hour so this gives me some comfort.

Very sorry about your uncle, @Wave— hoping he’s comfortable and being taken care of well for the time being :purple_heart:.

Hope your flight goes well. It’s a stressful situation for sure. Have you ever tried propranolol? I take it as a PRN and it helps tremendously. Not sure if it would help your anxiety, but if you’re worried about taking a controlled substance aboard an aircraft, it might be able to take the place of a benzo. I dunno, just a suggestion, but whatever helps you the most is best :+1:.

Thanks @Schztuna and @HollyHobbie
I’m already on a beta blocker @Schztuna
The only thing that helps with my anxiety is Klonopin
But thanks for the suggestion

Good news!
My brother said that he doesn’t mind driving us there if the weather holds up!
This would diminish my anxieties greatly!

It’s about an 8 hour drive there.
I think that I’d be able to handle that.

He owns an expensive 4 wheel drive SUV

Road trips in America are good! Nice highways and always places to stop for food. I’m glad you found a possilble solution to your fears and anxieties.

I’m sorry about your uncle.

I used to love flying as a kid. Now when I’m an adult it stresses me out. Lift off and landings are the worst. When the plane levels in the air then I’m fine.

I much prefer roadtrips to flights, as well.

I don’t like airplanes.
Nor ships.
I prefer ground
