The cable company now mails you a modem/router?, and you have to set it up yourself. I like the old days when they would send a technician to hook it up for you. They sent a little box? that plugs into your TV, but it isn’t working. They said you needed it for streaming service, but that I wasn’t paying extra for it. I don’t have a clue … I’m just happy I have WiFi now and both my phone and laptop computer will connect to it. I can work the smartphone better than I can the laptop. I never had a laptop before, and I’m having to learn.
I’ve only used 6GB and have 1223GB remaining on my WiFi for June. I’ll probably need it when I start doing online classes at college.
Capped internet is such a scam IMO. At least 1030 GB is a lot to go through. Its a shame that we cant have rights to internet.
Thanks @StarCrazy.
I have 1000mbps (1gbps) unlimited internet. It’s awesome.
I had to hookup mine too. The cable company wouldn’t send a technician into the house because of Covid.
I got the cheapest service they had as I can’t afford much on disability. I’m just hoping it’s enough for my online classes.
I hope so too. Can you get to a public library to use their internet if what you have isn’t enough? I’ve gone to the library to use their internet. It’s not so bad
I’m not sure if the public library is open now with Covid19, but if so I could go there. The University library is open, but my user id isn’t setup yet because I’m starting in the Fall.
My parents pay for my internet. I can afford my cellphone plan but that isn’t as fast and limited to 25GB/month.
Plus I would rather use a computer anyways, I hate using my phone for surfing the internet.
What speed is your Internet connection?
I have no idea. It much faster than my cellular data.
My broadband is £24 a month with no line rental.
It’s 50mbps and unlimited
I am lucky to have cable going into my apartment, so I get fast broadband without having a telephone
In my case I paying a total of $34 for one year under contract. It includes $14 for equipment rental. I’ll have to see what deals they have a year from now.
We have a comparison site called Uswitch here.
Every time my contract is up I see what the discounted rates are for new customers, and force them to give me the same discount or I will go elsewhere.
Works every time.
They’d rather make less money and keep you as a customer
Thanks @Joker. That’s some good advice.
I would rather hook it up myself than have a technician, it’s literally just plugging in some cables then going online or calling and verifying the connection, the more you do things yourself the easier they seem to be.
You can also buy your own modem/router at Walmart or online instead of renting one from the internet company, renting one adds up over time vs a one time purchase.
Well anything 50mbps and above is fine for most things for school. Web, email, zoom, etc…
If it is only 5 or 10 mbps then web and email only, other things will struggle.
Thanks @Headspark @lofifunk
Mines 80 Mbps above the 67 they advertise. Im gonna threaten to leave in october and hope they cut me a deal. The vodafone bill is already 115 a month, with the unlimited calls and data plans for the mobile and galaxy watch included.
They must have seen me coming.
