I’m stopping invega…

Hi, I’m new here and I’m on invega injections which are the only medication that works for my schizophrenia but the side effects are bad. I was suicidal many times and inpatient in the psych hospital more than 3 times because of it. Invega made it like I couldn’t feel my emotions, zero motivation, lack of pleasure, lack of sex drive and made it difficult to talk to people, just always blank on thing’s to say, very short answers to questions…

I’ve been reading that I’m not the only one with this problem, and was wondering how long after your first missed injection did it take to laugh again and feel pleasure, or have returned sex drive? Also how long until the voices and delusions come back?

I wish you all the best but it might not be a good idea to stop your meds.

Hospitals often over medicate to be on the safe side. 99% of the time the solution is not to quit the meds, but rather to decrease the amount. Talk to your doctor about it. People here quit all the time then end up right back on the meds in a month or so. Again and again and again. Save yourself some years and take this advice. The solution is in the middle ground. :slightly_smiling_face:

This medication was the worst for me overall out of all the years I have been on various.

Good luck switching. But please do it under the supervision of a doctor.

Don’t stop without consulting your doctor.

Which meds have you tried?

I’m stopping the invega because my psychiatrist doesn’t want me on more than one antipsychotic and she decided to stop the injections. I’m on latuda but I have to wait for the invega to wear off in order to see if latuda works or not.

I’ve tried haldol but it made me worse, seroquel doesn’t work for paranoia or voices, risperdal makes me too tired to function and oddly doesn’t work despite invega working. Geodon gave me panic attacks… I’ve basically tried them all almost, except for the last resort, clozapine which I am mostly afraid of the drooling aspect, I can’t drool onto the cash registers at work (I work at a grocery store), it’s just gross…

Invega for the most part controls my symptoms. It may for work others or not.

My last injection was the 78mg and there is only one dose lower the 39mg. My psychiatrist doesn’t want me on 2 antipsychotics at the same time, and because of the suicidal ideations I keep getting with the invega she thinks it’s better to stop the invega and stay on the latuda. I’ve been on it before so I know it doesn’t work for me. But thank you for the advice
