I am in the second stage where they check the medical history of my schizophrenia at social security. I recently got a letter saying that they need to conduct a medical examination on January 30 to determine better the seriousness of my disability. My question is simple how can i get approved for disability? they cant hear the voices in my head nor experience the paranoia I go through whenever im out in public, they dont know what its like losing my memory nor do i know how to prove exactly that…they dont know that Im getting used to my meds and they are becoming less effective to the point I am becoming more catatonic and less talkative like before…please help.
@333, Just tell the truth. It helps to have a long history of hospitalization or hospitalizations.
thank you!!! I hope it works…cause this aint getting any better Ive had 14 jobs in the past 10 years and dropped out of college/university 4 times…
An attorney is a good idea, if you have a good attorney. Do not pick an attorney based on TV ads. I strongly recommend an attorney if your application is denied at the initial stage, At that point, talk to local attorneys who specialize in Social Security disability cases. If you know people who have experience with disability claims, ask about their lawyers. You need a lawyer who will get to know you and your individual situation. Note: The lawyer cannot charge you a fee unless you win. If you win, the lawyer’s fee will come out of your back benefits and is limited to the lesser of $6,000 or 25% of back benefits.
For your application, gather all medical records from your doctors. Get your doctors - especially your psychiatrist - to complete forms about your functional ability. If the psychiatrist will do so, ask him/her to write a letter setting out specific limitations. It is important that the doctor be specific. Doctors like to give summary opinions such as, “he is disabled.” These opinions are of very little, if any value. It will be helpful if the doctor will give an opinion such as, “he cannot work more than four hours a day,” and/or “he would miss at least two days of work per week.” The doctor should list any other limitation that would keep you from working a fourty-hour workweek even in a sedentary job with easy tasks. A brief explanation for the reason would be very helpful.
Good luck with your claim and your SZ.
Thank you @InnerCircle
I only had one hospitalization when I was approved for ssi. But that was because the doctors at the hospital and my case manager at the clinic wrote letters for me. I didn’t have to do an examination. But every review I do usually have to go to an examination
@cbbrown i have also only had one hospitalization and one visit to the psychiatric center for 3 months until i started talking again so who knows…maybe itll work
I think it was @SurprisedJ who said to “describe your symptoms as your worst day, as happening everyday .” Does this make sense? It was helpful to me.
Tell the truth.
Get help.
I was rejected disability support pension several times before I was finally approved.
Getting rejected and applying was emotionally upsetting and draining me.
Applying was difficult for me.
It helps me a lot and I’m happy that I finally was approved.
