I’m not quite sure, but I had to sign an agreement giving them permission to do it. I suppose it’s to see what kind of person I am. If clients look me up on social media and sees a bunch of unprofessional stuff it could make the company look bad. My social media is pretty benign. I use Facebook the most, just to keep in contact with old friends and family, it actually worked in my favour because other than pics of me and my dog, most of my other posts are nerdy/geeky things. And I use instagram to post memes and wise quotations.

Then you have nothing to worry about. I’m assuming they just want to get a sense of who you are so won’t ruin the companies reputation if a client looks me up.

However since I’m working in IT they may wonder why I would not be using any social media given a lot of people on the planet uses it, as would many of my clients, and I should be familiar with it since it’s a large part of the world of technology.
