I gained weight

I am so frustrated. My lowest weight was 194 when I was doing the carnivore diet. That diet was way too strict for me and I went back to a standard balanced diet. But I think I have been careless with how much I was eating because I gained and now am back up to 218. I am terrified of gaining all my weight back so I am taking this very seriously.

My high weight was 296 in February 2023. I got down to 194 in August. I shattered my glass bathroom scale because I dropped it so I went without a scale for about 2 months. My last weight was 202.8 in the beginning of September at the doctor’s office, so from the beginning of September till now I went up 16 pounds! I am so discouraged. I am trying so hard not to resort to purging but I have struggled with my eating disorder for so long. I’m trying hard to count calories but it’s so hard not to eat over that limit

I hear you. My highest weight 3 years ago was 298. Using calorie counting and first Saxenda, then Mounjaro, i got down to 142. Then they stopped the Mounjaro and put me on Zyprexa, and my weight climbed back to 156. I’m resuming calorie counting and lowest-dose Mounjaro, but a few weeks ago i stopped the Zyprexa cuz it made me feel totally out of control with my eating. That resulted in 11 days in the hospital and being put back on Zyprexa. The doctors just say “well, it’s only a few pounds…don’t worry” but they don’t understand that it’s not about just a few pounds, it’s about feeling like the food controls me more than me controlling the food. I tried to convey to them that there is no way in hell that I’m going back to being obese, and that they’d better get on board and help me figure a way to prevent weight gain. I’d rather be crazy than have to deal with aching knees, poor stamina, and having to order all of my clothes online cuz I’m too fat to get them in a store. They act like it’s no big deal, but it really is important to me…

Yeah but you still made a lot of progress overall, no?

I’m sorry, that’s rough. Also, who thought it was a good idea to make scales out of glass? DUMB!

I struggle with weight too. I’ve found with my meds, I have to exercise 3-4 times per week and restrict calories in order to lose.

My current caloric goal is 1350 calories per day. I’m working my way down to 1200 per day over time. I need to shrink my stomach to make 1200 easier.

I had about 1500 calories today. Darn it. Need to dial it back some more. I did walk 8000 steps.

Men are supposed to have a minimum of 1500 per day. Women need a minimum of 1200 per day. In other words, you’re fine!

lol! @shutterbug , I know you want to lose weight, just don’t get unhealthy doing it. You need all your vitamins, minerals, protein, carbs, water etc. I think you got this - you’ll lose the weight.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. At this point my ED is out of control with my binging and purging. I’m very active(10-12k steps per day plus working out 4 days a week that can get me up to 20k steps on certain days) my goal is 1800 calories based on my activity level. If I eat under 1800 I feel starving and shaky. I just hard boiled some eggs to eat as snacks when I get peckish.

Doctor’s act like it’s no big deal to gain a little bit of weight, as long as there not the ones gaining it.

hope youre feeling better @Hanna_Foxx its natural for weight to fluxuate some. Especially in winter, everyone gains weight and in summer sheds some… its natural so try not to fixate too much on keeping an exact number. Come summer you can lose a lot again because its natural to move a lot more when its sunny and such.

I think your suggestion of eating eggs when hunger hits is one of the best things you can do for yourself. It will give you protein without the sugary carbs and that will cut out some of the carb cravings ultimately helping the binge/purge cycle.

My cardiologist is on me like white on rice over any weight gain.

As long as you are physically fit, a bit of chub shouldn’t be too bad. I’m sure you’ll lose it again during the Spring/Summer. Winter weight is normal.

Macro goals, micro solutions.

First, try not to catastrophize: don’t think your recent weight gain means that it’s inevitable that you’re going to regain all of the weight you lost.

Macro goal(s): weight loss and exercising.

Micro solution(s): counting calories and exercising. I think those micro solutions are too broad, so let’s break them down into smaller, more specific solutions. (I’m just providing an example, so please ask your doctor and/or nutritionist for professional advice.)

Instead of counting calories, let’s count net carbs (carbs minus fiber), protein, fat, fiber and calories. Let’s break it down even further. We’ll make the calories 2,200. Of that, 30 grams of carbs, 80 grams of protein, 65 grams of fat, and 50 grams of fiber. We’ll add 2.7 liters of water per day. We’ll add an eating timeframe of 10 hours, with only water 2 hours before bedtime.

Exercise is 10K steps per day.

The eating lifestyle has to be sustainable and within your budget.

As I said, I’m just a layman trying to provide examples of macro goals/micro solutions for weight loss, so these are just suggestions. Please see your doctor and/or nutritionist for medical advice.

I feel your frustration. I got down to 198 back in 2016 after years of diet and exercise then after a depressive spell I gained like 30 pounds. Since then I haven’t been able to get anywhere near 198. In 2020 I got all the way up to 270 then worked off about 26 pounds. I hovered around the 240 range for a couple years until I got on ozempic for a little while and got down to about 230. Insurance stopped covering the ozempic and now I’m all the way up to 260. I’m gonna invest in a treadmill soon which I’m hoping jumpstarts an exercise routine for me. Also I’m praying I respond well to Cobenfy. If that’s the case the weight should just fall off.

Edit: It seems like the worse my anxiety gets the more weight I gain. Less inclined to go to the gym/ go out and do things.

I’d have major issues if I tried to eat 50 grams of fiber a day lol I’ll stick to my recommended 25 grams

See where I live we stay inside and do nothing in the summer because it’s 115 degrees. In the winter we get more active in the 60-70 degree weather. I cannot gain weight, I don’t want to go back to having heart issues, not able to exercise because I’m so heavy, being barely able to make it up the stairs

That just gave me a headache.
