Hello everyone, I’m a 16-year-old French teenager and I’m currently being diagnosed for possible schizophrenia. I’ve been taking Abilify 5mg for over 4 months, and since the first three weeks of starting the medication, I felt that I was becoming more and more attracted to girls. After over 4 months of treatment, I came out as heterosexual. I no longer have any attraction towards men, only towards women. It’s very unsettling. I hope I can get an answer regarding whether this is due to Abilify or a natural change.

I have taken Abilify for over 15 years. It never impacted me sexually nor have I had sexual side effects. I would say the worst I have observed in myself and others are compulsive behaviors: gambling, binge-eating, etc. and on some level perhaps a shift in mood. So maybe you’re just going through some emotional changes that are natural or related to how you are evolving situationally?
also adding that not everyone expereinces medications the same but i wouldnt stress too much about it. whats more important is that you are in recovery or remission from schizophrenia and expereince less symptoms. Abilify really helps me a lot, and it allows me to think more clearly when without it im all over the place.

My best advice is not to dwell too much on pushing yourself in a box, just go with the flow and figure it out slowly. You’re still in the figuring yourself out age, enjoy it!

i took aripirazole- abilify b4
i felt abnormal sexually too
idk really why this happen
but thankfully i return to be hetereosexual after stopping it :))))

An older fashioned way at looking at sexuality which i subscribe to is that most people have a few years of interest in the same sex during teenage/young adult stages of life. But the vast majority grow out of it naturally over time and return to heterosexuality. Its very normal. I felt i used to be bisexual, but not anymore. And i do have a high and healthy sex drive still so its not due to meds causing low libido or anything.

I am taking 10 mg of Abilify daily. I started it in February at a lower dose. I have not had any sexual side effects. Whatever is happening with your sexuality, I wish you the best and hope you soon feel like yourself again.

Abilify help me become more in tune with my thoughts because it put away those feelings that block what was going on in my head
I am in learning a love both male and female body
But I am attracted to the female personality

I think I naturally have some same sex fantasies because when I was on a low dose of meds I would watch same sex-oriented porn a bit.
hyper sexuality is a side effect that has been reported with abilify. Why your preference has changed I can not answere.
