I used to be on Facebook quite a few years ago now. Initially it was good to keep in touch with my family who all live interstate. However, i forgot what my password was, and so went about the process of resetting it. Then when i tried to log in using my new password, Facebook stated it wanted proof of identity, such as a utility bill or birth certificate. How dare Facebook ask for my personal details! So i swore off it and haven’t been on it since.
I’m on FB and Twitter . While it may be true that some on FB are narcissistic and shallow , many aren’t . For many it’s just an additional way of keeping in contact with family and friends.
Many comments may not be deep and profound , but then many people aren’t deep thinkers. That in itself is not a major crime. There is nothing wrong with benign, casual chit chat.
Twitter attracts far more trolls , people who’s idea of free speech is to post like a sociopathic lager lout . It can be far nastier than FB .
Thats a very valid description, it gets boring to read the same old stuff everytime. You can never see new posts from people that the algorhythm doesnt filter, I find it nerving. I have instagram too tho, its full of my dauschunds spam tho lol
All social media is pointless in my opinion full of narcissists, self obessed, wannabe never gonna be people living in a reality world NOT the real world.I have been sober from it 3 years in November, and I have accomplished so much since NOT being on it.Found out who my REAL friends are in HARD TIMES!,learnt new languages, studied multiple subjects and started my online business against all the odds, with next too NO MONEY!.So you can probably guess that iam NOT a fan at ALL!
I also use FB market to sell and buy stuff.
I mostly use facebook for fun meme groups and keeping in contact with my friends. We don’t really post just share events or concerts with each other. I have a couple thousand friends though, and I don’t really talk to most of them anymore, just a lot of people accumulated by moving around in life.
I’m not on facebook either. Never have been.
Sell on Ebay or Amazon its shows your legit,Facebook Marketplace is not!
I was the most successful with Kijiji and I like it more than Amazon and eBay because I don’t pay any fees.
Here’s my hot take on Facebook.
When it was new it was cool. It was a successor to lots of other social media sites but with slightly better features (Bebo, Myspace) and lots of people left those communities to join facebook. Generally people would post to each other a lot because that’s what you did on the older social media sites. But slowly people realised it was really bad way of communicating because the news feed meant everyone else on their circle would read it, so slowly less direct communication went on and it became more of a place to post pictures.
Then everyone’s parents and grandparents and aunt’s starting joining and again it got a lot less cool. Now you have a reason NOT to post, in case your parents saw it (I don’t have much family on mine, but you get the idea).
And now we’re in this place where young kids actively don’t want to even sign up to it to begin with because there is no point to them. You can just send a message or a photo on whats app, or make a private whatsapp group etc. So what’s the need for it?
I think it is quite antiquated in terms of purpose now. If you want to be outwardly social, use twitter. If you want to post pictures, use instagram. I sometimes get a message from people on the past on FB messenger, and some of the groups for specific bands/artists are nice. FB market place can also be useful. But neither I nor many people I know really use it as a social media platform (IE posting things). At the time it was novel to have all your friends in one place in a neatly organised zone but that was like 15+ years ago now and times have changed.
@StarCrazy this is a pretty good assessment. I’ve noticed my facebook is pretty dead lately. I use it for FB messenger and for private groups and finding live events
I deactivated my account yesterday. Best thing I did.
I have an instagram but I find it uncomfortable to share photos of myself , its all pics of holidays and drawings that i like to show of…
I created a facebook since I couldn’t get a following and use it as an outlet for my thoughts, theories, beliefs, and philosophy. I’m being ignored and censored. Whatever. Twitter was the best for me. I had the most success there. I deleted it.
Now I use Facebook for serious business like talking to family.
I also use FB to watch entertaining videos like Taste Life, building stuff like BBQ etc, news like medical WebMD and tech like MobileSyrup, funny videos etc
Never too late to go back to twitter. I use it a lot find it useful.
I had 40-50 followers at one time. Doesn’t seem much but I enjoyed it while it lasted.
I would just try again if I were you. You never know you might get even more
I follow quite a lot people I don’t know but I find their views interesting
I think it’s a bit anti social to say everyone who uses facebook are self-centered narcissists.
It’s a great way to get a view into the life of someone you can’t physically meet up with, and to share your thoughts.
I don’t do anything for likes. I don’t care about likes. I just want to share funny memes to make people laugh, and to keep in touch with family and friends.
I enjoy FB for the groups. I have lots of friends and family members but I generally won’t post anything.
My grandma just texted me this morning saying she wants to go off FB. She takes things so personally on there. People are just people and you can choose to ignore them or unfriend them.
